Aug 9 06: Annual Hector and Susan Barrantes Memorial Cup starts @ Saratoga PC (NY)

MT. BRILLIANT, LONGFIELD FARM START BARRANTES WITH WINS

The annual Hector and Susan Barrantes Memorial Cup kicked off at Saratoga Polo on Wednesday with a double header.

Mt. Brilliant’s B team took the early match over a combined squad of local mainstays Bloomfield and Gene’s Cleaning with a final score of 8-5. Mt Brilliant B hopped out to an early lead thanks to the scoring prowess of Whystle Uys, who broke out with 4 goals in the first two chukkers. Willie Hartnett scored twice in the second half and Uys added another pair to finish out with 6 on the day, placing Bloomfield/Gene’s Cleaning out of striking distance by the final chukkers.

It was Longfield Farm that walked away winners in the evening match, rallying in the second half to narrowly defeat Wildwood/Woodlawn 13-11.

Longfield relied on the steady scoring of the Zavaletas, Agustin and Enrique to carry them through. Augustine led all scorers with 9 and Enrique added another 4 to put their team over the top.

Wildwood/Woodlawn, which enjoyed the lead for most of the first half and the beginning of the second, was led by Gaston Lisioli with 5 markers and Julian Hipwood with 4.

The Hector and Susan Barrantes Memorial Cup continues at Saratoga Polo on Thursday, August 10th as SaraBoca/Tackeria takes on Mt. Brilliant A at 10:30am. For more information about Saratoga Polo, call 518-584-8108 or visit saratogapolo.com.
