6-Goal Congressional Cup @ Silver Spur Polo Club (Illinois)

USPA 6 goal Central Circuit Congressional Cup
Silver Spur Polo Club in Illinois

The 2009 USPA 6 goal Central Circuit Congressional Cup at the Silver Spur Polo Club in Illinois got the outdoor season off to great start this year. There were several competitive teams in the Chicago land area. All of the games were won by one goal which shows how evenly matched the teams and games were. In the preliminary match, Team Millagos had a close game against the Dark Star team. There was great teamwork between David Smith and Tod Rackley with several big runs & goals for the Millagos team. Dark Star’s Darren Watts and Gonzalo Tevez tallied back with several more goals and won the game in the final minutes. In the next match up, Dean Regas and Don Healy (from the Silver Spur team) had excellent defense and kept the Millagos team from scoring in the first chukkar. Then Ben Gregoncza and Tod Rackley had a couple penalty conversions and nice shots on goal to even the score. In the last chukkar, Alvero Font and Claudio Gauna had a big run to goal to win the game for Silver Spur. The final game was between Dark Star and Silver Spur. Dark Star’s Gonzalo Tevez was the star of the game, scoring all of the goals for his team. However, the Silver Spur team did not give up that easily and Don Healy and Claudio Gauna rallied back with a couple of goals each chukkar and eventually won the game. Silver Spur won the tournament. The trophies were beautiful, engraved ice buckets.

Funny how the tournament is a 6 goal and they could only get three 4 goal teams. That is the state of polo in this economy
